Introduction

My name is Yosi Shani, I was born in 1951, in Neve Haim in Hadera.
I served in army in Nahal and later in the artillery corps as radio wireless operator.
From 1974 to 1982 I served in the police, in different operational roles. In 1978 I received citation on fighting and capturing terrorists.
From 1982 until 1997 I worked as private detective.

The art of pyrography (burnt paintings on wood) is a special way for me to express my thoughts and respect to the Jewish heritage.
I started to explore pyrography at the young age of ten. I used to capture the sun beams with a magnifying glass and point them at the wood. Also, I used draw on wood with a pencil and then spread gun powder on the markings. There was a burnt drawing in seconds. Now I use proper and safe tools to practice this wonderful art. I taught myself and got better as time passed.
As I grew older I neglected this form of art, until I got sick in 2003 and was diagnosed with Bone Marrow Cancer. Because of the chemotherapy treatments and heavy medication, my body and nervous system were badly affected. That was when I found my way back to pyrography. It was my savior and an ultimate way for me to grab life and never give up, both physically and mentally.
Although I grew up in a non religious home, I cannot forget the image of my grandfather. The connection to the Jewish heritage and religion still burn inside me.

I strongly believe in the holy energy of God and the universe. I also believe that every work I do can bring only joy and happiness to any house that accepts it.
Each work is done by hand and not by a machine like laser.
Each work takes about 8 to 40 hours in total (depending on the size and details).

I wish every one of you a healthy, happy and joyful life

Yosi Shani.
